UC Irvine Health School of Medicine hosted the 2013 gala on Saturday, April 6 in a spectacularly decorated tent under the stars on the UC Irvine campus. This year’s theme, “Creativity & Magic: Discovering Tomorrow’s Medicine Today,” spotlighted the extraordinary moments in teaching and discovery that are shaping the future of healthcare.
The event welcomed 534 guests and raised a remarkable $1.26 million. The gala was co-chaired by Jim and Kelly Mazzo and Tom and Elizabeth Tierney and honored retired PIMCO chief executive officer Bill Thompson and his wife, Nancy, who partnered with the Children and Families’ Commission of Orange County to create The Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders of Southern California.
Guests were among the first to get a glimpse inside the future home of the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, Orange County’s first university eye center, which is set to open to the public this fall.
