Donald J. Brown, PhD

Assistant Professor

 

Dr. Brown is an outstanding molecular biologist with research experience in the areas of corneal diseases such as Keratoconus and retinal diseases such as age related macular degeneration.

 

Dr. Brown earned his Ph.D. at the University of Colorado, Health Science Center, Denver, CO. In collaboration with Dr. Kenney, he has pursued biochemical and immunohistochemical investigations to identify the underlying etiology of keratoconus.

 

Dr. Brown was instrumental in determining that keratoconus corneas had increased enzyme activities and decreased levels of enzyme inhibitors. Additionally, Dr. Brown has expertise in the gene profile expression of human retinal and chorodial cells from normal and age-related macular degeneration patients. Dr. Brown is a member of ARVO and the International Society of Eye Research. He has served as ad hoc reviewer on numerous prestigious journals such as Experimental Eye Research, Archives of Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, and Cornea.
