Dr. Lerner completed his internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles County Medical Center followed by his residency in Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he also completed his PhD in Molecular Biology. |

Following his residency Dr. Lerner completed a two-year fellowship in retinal diseases and surgery at the Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to joining the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, Dr. Lerner was on faculty at the Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he was an instructor in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery and Scientist at the F.M. Kirby Center for Molecular Ophthalmology. Dr. Lerner is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Lerner specializes in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous including medical and surgical treatment of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, retinal reattachment surgery for primary and complicated retinal detachments, macular hole and epiretinal membrane surgeries, and posterior segment complications of cataract surgery. Dr. Lerner participates in clinical trials as part of the UCI Eye Institute.
